The Vision
Dance tutorials:
RESPECT THE ARTIST - Dancers often get exploited to work hard for less money. Dance studios or agencies often earn the big bucks while the dance teacher is the one putting their heart, soul and body into each of their class. Often dancers will get a 10-20% payment for one class, and the studio taking the rest. We want to flip it around so that the dancer earn the most.
RESPECT THE ART - In modern day, with a world based on likes, views and money, the dance styles authenticity often gets drowned. The club and street community, with is raw and real presentation, is filled with talented dancers with the real truth of the art and style. The same goes to other academical or athletic dance styles. Cypher is an app created by people in the dance community to serve a platform for the dance community. With all its authentic realness and rawness! That is why we want a platform for anyone to come together and teach or learn. Finally everyone can earn good money on being talented!
RESPECT THE COMMUNITY - Many dancers get many possibilities, but don't have the time, resource or knowledge on how make their art into a business. Cypher will help with that in many ways, including being able to teach online for your followers and others. Finally you can get an extra income so easily!
-
How much of my income goes to Cypher?35% of the subscibtion income goes to Cypher administration, hosting and taxes. Why? Usually in real life a teacher get paid €15-95 for teaching one class. Then a teacher is paid maybe 35-40% of what the studio owns from the class. In cypher we flip it around and give the biggest cut to the teacher. Cypher is a team of people who are working hard to get your classes and tutorials out. The administration costs needs to be paid, along with hosting an app/website. Also there are a lof of tax regulations to consider.
-
What if I post less one month? That might not be a problem. It depends on several things. Your content and teacher profile is your own business. It is good for your business if your students know that you are always giving them something so there is a reason to keep paying. (Your subscribers can cancel their membership whenever they want). But maybe you have uploaded a lot of content that allows the students to keep coming back even if you are not updating your profile for a month or two
-
How will I keep control of my subscribers?Every month you will receive analytics of your results. This will help you to see how your classes are going and how much you are getting paid.
-
Do I need a dance studio to record my content in?The easy answer is; no. You can film your content wherever you want, but we do recommend to film your classes in front of a mirror in a dance studio to help your students feel like they are in a class room - or to see the moves better. But you can film wherever you want as long as the movements are clear.
-
How should I record (film) myself? It depends on your tutorial/class. Here are some tips for better quality 1. Angle If you are teaching a choreography it is recommended to do so in front of a mirror. With the camera slightly to the side of you. This will show the student your back and also front. Like this: If you dont have a dance studio/mirror you can also record yourself from the front. We recommend a clean background or pretty background to keep your movements clear and to keep the students focused on you. Like this: 2. Show what is important If you are doing a feet only combo it is not necessary to see your whole body, only the feet. But otherwise show full figure. 3. Introduction It is always better if your students feel connected to you as a person. Therefore we recommend to give a little "Hello! My name is.. Today we are going to.." in the beginning of your class 4. Repetition (Recommended for classes) For classes, make sure to repeat the steps and choreo many times. Not only in the end. This will help your students feel they are in a class and keep motivation. If you are using a specific song, remember to repeat the choreo to the song many times before you go to the next part. Not doing so will make the student feel unmotivated and like they are not dancing, just moving. Its a common mistake in many online dance tutorials that the teachers do too many moves before the music hits. 5. Talk to the student during class (Recommended for classes) Keep the student reminded that you are there to teach him/her. Keep giving motivational words like "Good job!" or even ask questions like "Are you still with me?". Feel free to be yourself, professional, goofy, funny, exited, happy etc. This will make the student like you more. 6. End class with a good bye (Recommended) End your class by thanking the student for watching your video and feel free to ask them to post their result on social media and tagging you. Feel free to share your social media nick.

Do I HAVE TO upload regularly (Weekly/Monthly)?No, its up to you :) You can choose your own way of doing it but it all have it's pro/con sides: 1. Posting regularly (weekly/monthly) Pro: You might end up with more students/subscribers cause they get hooked on your content. Con: You need to update your profile more often. 2. Only have content that suits for 1-2 months of subscribing Someone might upload only a course with a few videos - for example "Intro course in understanding House", or "30 days of dance workout". Making people only subscribe shortly to your profile. Pro: Less work and from month to month there might be new people enjoying your course. You can just sit down and relax after your upload. Con: Might give you less income than if you build a fanbase 3. You upload a lot of content in the beginning, and only update when you feel like it Let's say you start by uploading 10-12 tutorials and classes in the beginning. If anyone start subscribing to your channel it gives you a lot of time before you need to upload again. Pro: You work most in the beginning and then you can relax and receive money from your subscribers. Con: If some of your students watch a lot of your content daily they will get impatient. What do we recommend? The best solution is number 3. Because it's: -Less work in the long run for good money -You will look like a tempting teacher to subscribe to -More time to promote your classes For example by doing this: Upload 7 classes/tutorials the first month. Upload 7 classes/tutorials the next month. Upload 7 classes/tutorials the third month. Keep uploading 1 tutorial every month

Do I need a teacher education to register? No. Many in the street/club dance community dont even have the possibilities to get an official dance education in their field. But it will help you to be a better teacher if you follow our guide / recommendations for your online classes

How much will I get paid?It depends on how many subscribers you got Online subscribtions is the biggest income for most dancers in modern day. With some dancers earning up to €3000 monthly on their online classes. Users in Cypher can subscribe to your content only. How many users who are subscribing to your class/tutorials defines how much you get paid. When registering you pick the price of your subscription. For example; If you select to have a subscription price on € 15 monthly and have 45 subscribers, it will bring in €675 monthly. I do a dance style that is not showed in Cypher, can I still teach?Yes of course! If you can add more styles into our online classes, we will be more than happy!

How can I gain better/more populare classes? The Quailty of the video: - Make sure your video angle and location looks good. - Make sure the sound of voice and music is good - Do more repetitions to the music - Be personal and keep the student engaged throughout the class See more under Keep promoting your own classes - Share link or info on your social media platforms - Keep a channel with info about your newest classes on instagram/FB - Recommend real life students to expand their dance skills by also doing your online classes on Cypher. - Pay to get featured on the front page of the cypher app (coming soon) MORE INFO ABOUT VIDEO QUALITY: If you are teaching a choreography it is recommended to do so in front of a mirror. With the camera slightly to the side of you. This will show the student your back and also front. Like this: If you dont have a dance studio/mirror you can also record yourself from the front. We recommend a clean background or pretty background to keep your movements clear and to keep the students focused on you. Like this: 2. Quailty of the sound Make sure you film in a room without too much noise. We recommend to use a wireless microphone if you are talking. If you are using music we recommend to edit the video after recording and adding the music to the video. This will make your tutorial very smooth to watch and more professional. 3. Think about the student - Repetition, music and talk Many online classes are making a huge mistake by not thinking about the students. Mostly when it comes to how much choreo/information they give before putting on music. Remember, dance is not only movements in order, its a meeting point between music and movements. Therefore dont teach too many 8-counts before repeating several times to the music. Keep the student reminded that you are there to teach him/her. Keep giving motivational words like "Good job!" or even ask questions like "Are you still with me?". 4. Be personal! Students like when they feel connected to the teacher. Feel free to be yourself, professional, goofy, funny, exited, happy etc. This will make the student like you more. It is always better if your students feel connected to you as a person. Therefore we recommend to give a little "Hello! My name is.. Today we are going to.." in the beginning of your class. End your class by thanking the student for watching your video and feel free to ask them to post their result on social media and tagging you. Feel free to share your social media nick.

Can I have other people than myself in my videos?Yes you can, but only if the people in the video have agreed to be filmed and shared on your Cypher classes.
-
Do I need professional camera/microphones?The short answer is; no. As long as your camera/mobile camera is in a good quality that is all you need. You dont need to have a microphone but we highly recommend it. Why? Because statistics show that online students prefer clear sound of your talking.

What is the difference between "Class" and "Tutorial"A tutorial and class both consist of you teaching dance. The difference is length and content. A tutorial: A short video on 1-5 minutes to teach the users simple techniques, drills or combos. For example "How to do the moonwalk", with an easy step-by-step video. These videos sometimes does not include talking. A class: A longer video, for example 10-30minutes, where you teach a choreography, technique or combos. Usually with you talking the students through the steps and repeating the choreography/combo as you would in a class. For example with repetition to help engage the dancer to keep watching your video.
