Viktor about original Punkers

PUNK / PUNKER / PUNKING - Old slang for a homosexual, the original waackers called themselves "Punkers" to take away the stigma and negativity of the word. The punkers was inspired by old Hollywood movies and cartoons - which had a more theatrical and dramatic way of expressing body language. As OG Vikor Manoel said "Punking was behaviour movements" The style was also to liberate yourself, have pride in who you are and dare to express yourself freely. Punking refers to the emotions and intentions you but into your movements. FEMPUNK - Since the original punkers (waackers) was gay the term "punking" is ment for men. In the years to come most waackers are straight sis women - expressing their liberation as female and also gave the punking a new expression. This has been called "Fempunk" (short for feminine punking), and some waackers call themselves Fempunker.

WHACK - "To strike with force" in the dictionary. "Whacking" was the name of the style before "W-a-a-cking". Getting the name from old cartoon shows like Batman where the onomatopoeia was used to describe to sound of movement or impact. Like "Bang!", "Swosh!", "Crack!". The movements in waacking, inspired by the old movies/cartoon looked simular to these sounds. The "whack" movement is not the arm roll but to strike out your hand with force like you are slapping something in the air.

POSE - To make a pose is to get into a position where you express emotion. Often in waacking showing grace, femininity/masculinity and power/soreness. It can be still, like a photo, or, due to waackings inspiration from old movies; in movements.

Styles often heard about:

HUSTLE - A couple dance from the disco era. Invented by Puerto Rican teenagers in late 1972. Many waackers also know hustle due to its link to disco dance culture VOGUE - Often confused as Waacking. Often referred to as a "siste style" of Waacking due to its LGBT-connection and use of posing and arm drills. But Vogue origins from the east side of America (New York) and are danced to house-like music. It has its own culture, music, language, movements, other categories ("styles"), they dont compete in "battles" but at "balls". Old Way Vogue also consist of posing, but an easy way to put it is; Vogue is about the pictures, Waacking is about the movies. The difference in arm drills are often seen on the dancers wrist and the entire body language. Vogue have for many years been more exposed and popular than waacking due to its strong community, big "houses" and exposure in media. For many years vogue balls had waacking as a category, as waackers and voguers often have supported each other. OG waacker Tyrone Proctor would say "A good waacker is a person who train all styles". But he would stop a battle if someone did Vogue in a Waacking battle, to demonstrate the importance of knowing the difference between those styles.

LOCKING - A dance style also from Los Angeles in the 60s/70s. Lockers and punkers collaborated in their glory days. Shabba Doo was the first straight man to dance waacking. He was originally a locker and gave that type of look and energy into the punking.
